Radio 47 presenter Emmanuel Mwashumbe recalled a hilarious experience meeting a fan with certain expectations about him.
Speaking during commemoration of #WorldRadioDay, Mwashumbe acknowledged that technological innovations have brought listeners and presenters closer.
“There is a time I went outside Nairobi. It was a meet and greet with fans at a club. Now there is this fan who had created their own image about me in their head.
“So when I arrived, the fan expected to see a very tall, huge man with a big belly because of how I sound on radio, my voice”- the radio presenter narrated.
Excited to meet the renown media personality, the fan walked around asking for the famous Mwashumbe only to be pointed to a medium height, lean man.
“The person told me to stand up so they can look at me. They told people around me that it was a lie. The Mwashumbe they imagined had a big belly,” he narrated.
Lynda Oriaso, Programmes Controller on Radio 47, attributed this experience to limited access of content back then.
However with the evolution of digital media, fans are able to access radio content through multiple platforms in both video and audio formats.
“Radio became mobile on our phones. Instead of the internet becoming a competitor for radio, internet has just increased footprint for radio. Its reach is just becoming wider.
“The accessibility of radio keeps growing and considering that radio has always been the most accessible, I think radio will live forever,” she added.
Emmanuel Mwashumbe hosts Breakfast 47 show all weekdays from 6am to 10am alongside renown radio personality Alex Mwakideu.
The two have experiencing spanning 20 years which has come with a massive following both on and off social media. Both said evolution of radio has created more opportunities for youth seeking to venture into radio.
