The National Irrigation Authority has appointed Eng. Charles Mutinda Muasya as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a circular from the authority’s board, Eng. Muasya was appointed after a competitive recruitment process that kicked off in October 17, 2023 through a public notice inviting qualified persons to apply for the position.
His appointment is effective December 7, 2023.
Prior to his appointment, Eng. Muasya was the Acting CEO and the Deputy General Manager in charge of Infrastructure and Irrigation Development Services at the authority.
Eng. Muasya qualifications
A practicing professional engineer registered with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), Eng. Muasya has experience spanning ore than 26 years in irrigation infrastructure development and management.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of South Australia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Egerton University.
He has designed various irrigation systems, coordinated and supervised the implementation of many irrigation and water storage projects.
Projects involved in at the authority
Eng. Muasya has oversaw the successful completion and implementation of various projects at the authority.
They include; successful completion of Thiba Dam in Kirinyaga County, putting an additional 10,000 acres under irrigation and creating over 50,000 jobs in the process.
He fast-tracked the implementation of the Galana Kulalu model far and uptake of production by the private sector through Public Private Partnership.
He also signed a Project Development Agreement (PDA) with the UK-based private investor GB Consortium on implementation of the High Grand Falls Dam. The dam will provide more than 5600 million cubic metres of water to irrigate about 400,000 acres while generating up to 1,000 megawatts of hydropower. The dam to be built at the confluence of River Mutonga and River Tana.
