Two years ago, an engineer had a construction project along Thika Road.
His daily commute took him from Limuru Road via Muthaiga towards Thika Road, both to and from work.
Along this route, which was prohibited for matatus, there were security guards from UN offices and other residences along Limuru Road and Runda who often sought lifts from passing vehicles.
Blessings in disguise
One day, a particular guard with many stories asked the narrator why it was rare for people of higher means to give lifts to those less fortunate, even when it was rainy and muddy.

In response, the engineer smiled and asked for the guard’s name, which turned out to be Otis.
The engineer then shared that the rich too, faced struggles, despite the difference in their circumstances.
Further, he explained that he worked as an engineer in construction and even offered to help Otis find a job someday.
This conversation sparked an idea in his mind, and he decided to print business cards, which they kept in their car.
Colliding with destiny
Over the following days and weeks, the engineer made sure to share his business cards.
With the people he gave lifts to, including Otis.

One day, the narrator received a call from a foreigner (Mzungu) who wanted to meet regarding a project.
During the meeting, the engineer asked how he had been referred.
The Mzungu explained that Otis had spoken highly of him.
Blessing in disguise
Otis had worked as a night guard at one of their construction sites and had been recommended for the project.
This turn of events highlighted several important lessons:
Business opportunities can arise from unexpected interactions, not just formal networking events.
Every person you meet has the potential to be a bridge to your success, so it’s crucial to engage with others genuinely.
Kindness and generosity have a way of coming back to you; what you give today may return to you when you least expect it.
Treating everyone with respect and kindness can lead to unexpected blessings, as God may use them to facilitate your success.
The engineer pledged to repay Otis’s kindness, possibly by buying him a motorbike and providing financial support for his wife’s business.
