Enterprise road, Eastern and Thika bypasses partially closed due to floods

Enterprise road, Eastern and Thika bypasses partially closed, rendered impassable Wednesday May 1, 2024 due to floods and the ongoing heavy rains in Nairobi.

This was after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) issued a public warning on some roads in  Nairobi and Kiambu that have been declared partially impassible.

In a public notice, KURA explained that the roads in the two counties have been affected by floods as a result of the ongoing heavy rains  in the country.

“Following the heavy rains experienced last night across the country, the following roads within  Nairobi and Kiambu Counties have been heavily affected leading to partial closure,” KURA said.

The government agency stated that Enterprise Road, Eastern Bypass and Thika Bypass were badly affected by the floods.

“The traffic police and our technical team are on the ground to direct traffic and enhance the safety of Motorists,” KURA stated.

Meanwhile, the roads authority disclosed that it shall continue updating Kenyans in regards to the floods and affected roads in the country.

At the same time, KURA urged drivers to drive safely and avoid crossing flooded sections of the roads.

Consequently, many road users were stranded Wednesday morning after Thika Road flooded at Kenyatta University and Juja.

Traffic flow along the Thika Super Highway was affected after a section of the highway was submerged by water, particularly at the Thika bound on the underpass of the Juja Flyover area.

Additionally, motorists were being directed to use Service Lane to access the highway after the High Point area.

Traffic police were turning away motorists on both sides of the busy highway to avoid a tragedy.

As a result, vehicles from Nairobi heading towards Thika were making U-turns and coming back to the Githurai roundabout.
