Death of my son gave me new purpose in music- Davido

Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido (real name David Adedeji Adeleke Jr) has revealed that his son's demise has given him a new purpose in music.

Davido made his appearance since the incident during an interview with international media house CNN earlier this week.

"I knew that people would want me to be able to make thousands of people happy like I do on a daily. Obviously I really had to calm myself down, take a step back. This has shown me that I was really born to do music. This situation could break anybody," the artist explained.

He went on to say that the support he received globally after his three-year-old son Ifeanyi Adeleke died was vital to the family.

'Personally the support I got from people was one of the things that helped me stand up again. Messages from every kind of person in the world from politicians to sportsmen, musicians, presidents. That made me strong enough to stand up again," Davido added.

The artist released his new album "Timeless" which he said will feature some of his personal life experiences. He dismissed claims that the album was produced after his child's demise.

"Before my son passed we had finished the album. We did not come to make this album like oh we were sad," he added.

Davido and Chioma Rowland's son Adeleke apparently died after drowning at their Banana Island residence in Lagos, Nigeria. The incident occurred on October 31, 2022.
