Manchester United players after their match with Liverpool

“You have big highs and low lows, but if you want to win something at the end of the season, you have to be consistent.

“We played well and didn’t give them any chances from open play. If we got three or four passes in, then you can hurt them, and we did that in the end.

“We had two good chances, and I am very pleased with the team.

“We never switched off and kept the discipline, and if you do that you can even win the game.

“Varane and Evans had a brilliant game. They are experienced players. Communication is so important. Amrabat and Mainoo also did it so well in midfield.

“The way we defended was almost perfect, and when we made a mistake, there was always a teammate to sort it out and cover each other, that was the big win for the day.

“You always have to fight for the badge and for your teammates. At United it is always the same – it is us against the rest.”

Arsenal take the top spot, and Liverpool slip to second where they are on level in points with Aston Villa.

The gunners beat Brighton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium couresty of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Hervertz in the 53th and 87th minutes respectively.
