Equip Africa Institute, in yet another milestone, on Wednesday, December 20 held its second graduation ceremony with graduands from three departments joining the job market and further studies.
The epic ceremony held in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County saw 224 graduands conferred with Diploma (113), Certificate (105) and Artisan certificates (6).
They were drawn from; Department of Clinical and Health Sciences, Department of Business and Social Science as well as the Department of ICT and Media.
The TVET arm of Mount Kenya University, Equip Africa Institute is at the forefront in addressing the acute shortage of competent and compassionate professionals in the East African region and the whole of Africa, in line with the Kenya Vision 2030.
Message from the Chief Guest
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the chief Guest, Captain Stanley Kirui, CEC Education and Vocational Training in Trans Nzoia County, congratulated the graduands for achieving their academic milestone.
“This historic occasion marks not only the peak of your hard work and dedication but also the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities and opportunities… Your willingness to adapt to new technologies and innovative practices will undoubtedly contribute to closing the skills gap and driving sustainable economic growth.”
He encouraged the graduands to continue seeking opportunities for growth and development, to remain open to new ideas and technologies, and to always strive for excellence. “Your success will not only be a testament to your hard work but also a source of inspiration for future generations of learners.”
MKU Vice Chancellor’s take
Mount Kenya University Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi underscored the theme of this year’s graduation ceremony; Enhancing Innovation and Technology in Bridging Skills Gap for a Sustainable Economy.
“The strength of a country’s economy is determined by two factors – the skills of her workforce and the productivity that comes out of it. Kenya’s Big 4 Agenda can only be achieved through a dedicated, skilled, and competent workforce. The expertise you have gained in your respective fields is not only a personal asset but also a valuable resource for the development of our nation and beyond,” he noted.
Armed with knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired during their time at Equip Africa Institute, Prof. Jaganyi encouraged the graduands to be part of the mass that will enable the government to attain its objectives of food security, affordable housing, manufacturing and affordable health care.
“Your accomplishment is not only a reflection of your hard work but also a testament to the quality training provided by Equip Africa Institute under the guidance of Mount Kenya University. Remember that learning is a lifelong journey. Continue to seek opportunities for growth, remain open to new ideas, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics,” he added.
Dr Nahashon Mwirigi Assurance
On his part, the Principal, Campuses Coordination and Institutional Compliance, MKU, Dr Nahashon Mwirigi assured the graduands that the rigorous and comprehensive training they have undergone has equipped them with practical skills, technical knowledge, and competencies that are in line with industry standards and demands.
“Your training has not only prepared you for the challenges of the workforce but has also instilled in you a strong basis upon which you can build a successful and fulfilling career. As you step into the professional world, it’s crucial to continue to uphold the highest standards of quality and professionalism in your work,” Dr Mwirigi said.
He also implored the graduands to recognise the importance of research and innovation in driving progress and advancement in the technical and vocational sectors.
“Embracing a spirit of innovation, curiosity, and creativity will enable you to contribute to the development of new technologies, processes, and solutions that can positively impact your industry and beyond.”

Equip Africa Institute Executive Director Prof. Evans Kerosi Somoni, while congratulating the graduands, was quick to remind them that it was not the end, but rather the beginning of a new journey.
He also reminded them to remain being the ambassadors of Equip Africa Institute.
“As you step into the professional world, I urge you to continue enhancing your professional skills as it’s a lifelong process. Every experience and challenge you encounter, provides you an opportunity to grow, embrace change, stay curious, and never stop seeking knowledge.
“While discharging your professional responsibilities you remain the ambassador of Equip Africa Institute; always uphold professionalism, serve diligently, safeguard the name of your alma mater, and let your actions reflect the values and principles instilled in you during your time at the institution,” Dr Kerosi insisted.
