Erik Ten Hag to remain in charge of Manchester United after season review

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s season review concluded that a record of two trophies in two seasons means Erik Ten Hag deserves to stay at Manchester United.

The Dutchman has made incredible development in England’s Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, and his professionalism and dignity mean he can start negotiations over a new contract with the club.

This has now put to rest speculations about his future with the Red Devils following a dismal performance in the English Premier League that saw the team finish 8th with 60 points, the lowest in the club’s history.

Ten Hag’s current contract ends at the end of next season, with the club having the option of extending it by a further 12 months.

The Dutchman had to contend with an injury-ravaged squad throughout the season but managed to salvage Europa League qualification with a victory over City at Wembley.

Manchester’s troubles made it look like Ten Hag was well on his way out after the conclusion of the season, similar to Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea, who despite finishing higher than United, had a similarly disappointing season.

However, with the likelihood of Ten Hag’s exit, Mauricio Pochettino was among those linked to replacing the manager at the club, along with Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna, and Gareth Southgate.

United also believe new signings, notably Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana, need time to settle in, while Mason Mount spent most of last season sidelined due to injury.
