Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrives at State House in Nairobi

The Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed arrived at State House, Nairobi in the morning of Wednesday February 28, 2024 for a meeting with President William Ruto.

This was after the Ethiopian Prime Minister landed in Nairobi on Tuesday February 27, for the first time since President Ruto took over power.

Abiy and his spouse Zinash Tayachew were received by president Ruto and thereafter officially opened the Samasource Kenya EPZ Limited at the Nairobi Delivery Centre.

President William Ruto shared images on his X account, showing how he welcomed the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

“In the company of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia  Abiy Ahmed and his spouse Zinash Tayachew, officially opened the Samasource Kenya EPZ Limited, Nairobi Delivery Centre. 

“Prime Minister Abiy is on a State Visit to Kenya,” President Ruto posted on X.

His visit comes a few days after President Ruto visited Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 37th African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government on February 16.

The visit also comes at a time when Azimio leader Raila Odinga has intensified campaigns for his bid for the position of AU chairperson.

For instance Raila together with President William Ruto held a meeting with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on February 26, 2024 in Entebbe, Uganda to discuss issues about Raila’s bid for the AU top job.

Agenda for the meeting between President Ruto and the Ethiopian Prime Minister is not clear but it may include discussing Raila’s bid for the AU job.

Abiy previously visited Kenya in 2020 for the launch of the One-Stop Border Post at Moyale in Marsabit during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.
