Ex-Busia governor Ojaamong ditches ODM, joins President Ruto’s UDA

Former Busia County governor Sospeter Ojaamong has ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM and joined President William Ruto’s UDA.

Ojaamong, who was a strong defender of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and party leader Raila Odinga has decided to support President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

The former Busia governor made the declaration on Sunday January 21, 2024 in the presence of President William Ruto at Machakus Primary School in Busia County.

This was during the official President Ruto’s tour in Teso, Busia County as he attended an interdenominational prayer meeting and launched development projects before addressing rallies in Malaba town and Angurai.

Speaking during the event, Ojaamong said that working under the government is the best experience for any Kenyan. 

“From today I’ve joined UDA and I expect to be in government fully,” Ojaamong said.

“The best way to get better development projects is by supporting the government,” he added.

Ojaamong was a life member of ODM, having won the Teso North parliamentary seat twice as well as being elected as Busia governor for two terms on the party ticket.

Sports cabinet secretary who was also present during the event lauded Ojaamong for the decision he made to join the ruling party, UDA.

“Your Excellency Ojaamong has made a good decision. Let’s support him as he joins the UDA house,” Ababu said.

Ojaamong’s decision to quit ODM, came as a surprise to many residents of Busia who knew him as the number one supporter of Raila Odinga.
