Ex-Governor Lenolkulal loses 4 prime Karen properties to State

Former Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal has suffered a major blow after the High Court issued orders for the state to seize four of his houses valued at more than KSh80 million in an ongoing graft case.

In a judgment delivered at Milimani Law Courts, Lady Justice Esther Maina also ordered the former governor to forfeit the sum of KSh14.6 million frozen during the hearing of the EACC recovery case and further pay the costs of the suit to EACC.

Following the judgement, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is set to seize four prime properties located in Karen, Nairobi, unless Lenolkulal pays back the sum of KSh80,763,715.35 as ordered by court.

The agency believes that Lenolkulal purchased these properties with funds illegally obtained from the Samburu County Government

The governor is also expected to pay the amount with interest at court rates (12%) from the date of receipt of the sums or in the alternative forfeit the 4 developed properties to the State.

EACC had on September 10, 2019, sued Lenolkulal for allegedly unlawfully acquiring sum of KSh80,763,715.35 through a contract he entered into with the Government of Samburu County for the supply of fuel through Oryx Service Station – a business he allegedly owns.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi says Lenolkulal received a sum of Kshs. 80,763,715.35/= during the said period being payments arising out of the said contracts for the supply of fuel through account number 1124724591 at Kenya Commercial Bank Limited held in the name of Oryx Service Station Limited.

EACC showed the court that Lenolkulal invested the money to purchase four properties in one instance; LR No. 2259/744(IR. 134495/1), LR No. 2259/745 (IR.134494/1), LR No. 2259/749 (IR. 134510/1) and LR No. 2259/750 (IR. 134511/1) all situated in Karen within Nairobi County at Kshs. 22 million each amounting to Kshs. 88 million.
