Ex-KDF soldiers warn politicians against commenting on talks

The Kenya Veterans for Peace (KVP) on Friday, August 25 urged politicians who are not members of the national dialogue team to cease commenting on the same, whether positively or negatively.

In a statement, KVP Executive Director Dr. Nelson Sechere said commenting on the talks may negatively affect the outcome.

“Members of the dialogue team must be allowed to engage in the talks without external interference,” said Dr. Sechere.

According to the Kenya Veterans of Peace, the national dialogue was the last hope to ensure peace in Kenya.

This comes just a month after the Ex-KDF soldiers visited the Pan-African Parliament in South Africa where they discussed peace and security in Africa.

The ex-army officers met with the president of the institution Fortune Charumbira and explored collaboration on delivering long-lasting peace on the continent.

“As both members prepare to formalize our relationship with the Pan African Parliament we sought to learn more about the Pan African mandate and operations,” Dr Sechere noted.

KVP is a group of retired military officers who are working for peace in Africa. It draws its membership from retired military personnel.

The members have played a major role in United Nations peacekeeping exercises, AU peacekeeping, climate change, and security operations among others.

Remarks by Ex-KDF soldiers emerged a few days after deputy president Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the talks were useless.

Gachagua’s sentiments were echoed by Kiharu member of parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro, who also called for the termination of the talks.
