Pamela Nduku Mutua, the former Managing Director of the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC), has been charged with procurement irregularities related to the edible oil scandal of 2022.
Nduku was arrested and held at Muthaiga Police Station. The charges against her include willful failure to comply with applicable procurement laws.
Nduku was charged alongside Amos Juma Sikuku, a Supply Chain and Logistics Manager at the KNTC, who pleaded not guilty to abuse of office charges.
According to a charge sheet seen by TV47 Digital, Nduku is being accused of willfully failing to report to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) after award of several tenders.
Specifically, Nduku is accused of similar offenses involving tenders awarded to Purma Holdings Limited, Multi Commerce FZC, Standard Petroleum LLC, and Makram Imports and Exports.
The offences were allegedly committed between November 8 and December 5 2022.
For Juma, he is specifically accused that on 16th November, 2022, he arbitrarily issued a professional opinion in a tender for the procurement of bulk commodities that was prejudicial to the interests and rights of the Republic.
They appeared before Magistrate Thomas Nzioki where Nduku was granted a cash bail of KSh1.5 million, while Juma was freed on a KSh500,000 cash bail.
