Former Kasarani Member of Parliament (MP) Elizabeth Ongoro has revealed she heavily funded Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the 2022 elections.
Ongoro who was a staunch Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member said she sold her houses to support Raila’s presidential bid in the 2022 elections.
Ongoro’s revelation comes two months after she ditched Raila’s ODM and joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
She explained that by then, she was optimistic that the former prime Minister was the right candidate to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta, who was president by then.
“If I tell you the number of buildings I sold to make sure Raila’s vision to become president a reality, some of you would think that I am foolish,” Ongoro said.
The former Kasarani MP, who is also the sister to Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo added that she sacrificed a lot in funding Raila’s campaigns.

She regretted that it was so unfortunate that Azimio could not deliver Kenyans to the promised land of Canaan due to the presence of crocodiles in River Jordan.
“When we wanted to get to Canaan, some of us did it with all our hearts and tears, pushing for a Raila Odinga presidency,” she said.

“But we got to river Jordan, and Raila took some steps backward, telling us he had seen a crocodile. We came back,” she added.
Ongoro’s allegations follow previous revelations by other Azimio leaders who acknowledged that the Azimio leader launched a very expensive presidential campaign in the August 2022 elections.
Consequently, William Ruto, who was deputy president at that time claimed that the expensive Azimio presidential campaign was being funded by thieves.

While decamping to the ruling party UDA, Ongoro declared her support for the president, adding that the Kenya Kwanza government has the interests of Kenyans.
“I believe in UDA and I know the party was doing everything possible for the benefit of all Kenyans,” she stated.
On the other hand, Raila’s ODM party on September 8, announced changes in its leadership structure to replace those who had decamped to UDA.
The party added that it was also replacing other ODM officials who had resigned from the party.
