Ruiru Golf Club set to host prestigious Lady Captain’s Tournament

The picturesque par-72 Ruiru Golf Course will come alive this Saturday, February 15, as it hosts the much-anticipated Lady Captain’s Tournament. With an expected turnout of around 300 amateur golfers from Nairobi, the event promises top-tier competition, camaraderie, and a celebration of golfing excellence.

Celebrating a Year of Dedication

This year’s tournament is themed “Celebrating a Year of Dedication,” a tribute to the leadership and impact of Lady Captain Rhoda Mukami. Under her stewardship, Ruiru Sports Club has experienced significant growth, securing prestigious events and cementing its reputation as a premier golfing destination.

“This year, we have embodied the spirit of being united, growing stronger, and achieving more. Our focus remains on continuing to foster a vibrant golfing community,” said Mukami, reflecting on the club’s progress.

A Week of Festivities

The excitement kicked off earlier in the week with a senior golfers’ celebration, recognizing their contribution to the club’s legacy. Adding to the club’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, members visited Ruiru Hospital, donating chairs to support new mothers.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Friday will feature a mixed foursome double event, with participants dressed in red and white, creating a festive and romantic atmosphere.

Main Event: Saturday Showdown

On Saturday, 250 golfers will take to the greens for the main tournament, competing in a friendly yet fiercely contested event. Players are encouraged to wear blue and white in line with the tournament’s dress code, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines Ruiru Sports Club.

A Legacy of Growth

Under Mukami’s leadership, the club has seen remarkable progress, particularly in women’s golf. Today, Ruiru Golf Club boasts 130 female golfers, with 30 new members joining since 2014.

Thanks to Mukami’s efforts, Ruiru has also been selected to host this year’s prestigious KLGU GOTY (Kenya Ladies Golf Union Golfer of the Year) event, further solidifying its reputation as a top-tier golfing and corporate event venue.

With an electric atmosphere, an impressive lineup of players, and an unwavering commitment to growing the sport, the Lady Captain’s Tournament 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark event on Nairobi’s golfing calendar.
