Excitement continues to build ahead of the 26th edition of the Safari Sevens

Africa’s premier sevens rugby tournament, the Safari Sevens, is back for its 26th edition this year, marking a significant milestone.

For the first time, the tournament will be held outside Nairobi, moving to the Machakos Kenyatta Stadium. This change of venue aims to offer fans, players, and the entire rugby community a fresh and unique experience.

Machakos is bracing for a thrilling weekend of rugby action as the 2024 Safari7s kicks off in just three days at the Kenyatta Stadium! The highly anticipated tournament will start on Friday morning, with Age-grade teams from across the country set to compete in this iconic rugby sevens event.

The tournament will reach a crescendo later in the afternoon as the senior teams take to the field, each playing one match to officially mark the start of their campaign.

With excitement building across the rugby community, the release of the official draw for the matches will be announced soon. Get ready for an unforgettable weekend of high-octane rugby, as Safari7s continues to showcase top-tier talent and electrifying moments.

This year’s event will feature 10 teams in the men’s category and 5 teams in the women’s category. Shujaa and the Kenya Morans headline the men’s category, while the Shogun Rugby (formerly known as Samurai) have confirmed their attendance.

The Southern and East African regions will be represented by Zimbabwe and Uganda respectively—additionally, 2024 overall sevens circuit winners Kenya Harlequins are set to compete, alongside Kenya Varsity Select. International teams including Qatar, Lions Rugby, and the Red Wailers will join the competition.

In the women’s category, the Kenya Lionesses and Kenya Cubs will go head-to-head with Uganda, Shogun, and Costa Blanca Barbarians, promising thrilling matches.

Meanwhile, Rugby fans can expect an exciting weekend ahead with all the live action on TV 47 Kenya and Radio 47 as Cape Media CEO Mwenda Njoka has today signed a partnership agreement with Kenya Rugby to broadcast the upcoming safari sevens in Machakos.
