Exiled journalist congratulates ex-wife on new marriage, admits fault in their divorce

Exiled journalist John Garang publicly congratulated his ex-wife, Paleki Matthew, and her new husband, Ngino Along.

Marking a poignant moment of humility and closure.

John Garang took full responsibility for the breakdown of their marriage, acknowledging his failures and expressing support for Paleki’s new chapter in life.

In a heartfelt social media post, Garang recounted the difficult circumstances surrounding their divorce.

While he was detained at the National Security Jail, his elders informed him of the divorce proceedings.

Due to his imprisonment, he could not attend court, leading their elders to mediate the situation. Despite their efforts, reconciliation was not achieved.

Further, he candidly admitted that his poor communication and neglect were the primary reasons for their marriage’s collapse.

“All the mistakes that ended this marriage are my fault,” he wrote, openly acknowledging his shortcomings.

He praised Paleki as a well-educated and hardworking UN consultant, emphasizing that she bore no blame for the failed marriage.

He urged others not to judge her for moving on and starting anew with Ngino Along.

“Paleki did nothing wrong,” John stated. “She deserves happiness, and I hope others will respect her decision and support her in this new journey.”

Garang admits his mistake

The post garnered significant attention and praise for John’s humility and mature approach to a difficult situation. Many commended him for publicly accepting responsibility and wishing his ex-wife well.

Paleki stirred reactions on social media after walking down the aisle a second time, eight years after her first wedding.

Paleki, a news anchor at SSBC and a musician, married John in 2016 in a lavish and colourful ceremony held at Freedom Hall.

However, the marriage encountered significant challenges when Garang was arrested for failing to repay the millions he had borrowed to fund the extravagant wedding.

Despite the financial and emotional turmoil, Grang was praised by netizens for displaying remarkable grace in his response to Paleki’s remarriage.
