Fake High Court Advocate nabbed in Nairobi

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nairobi branch Rapid Action Team (RAT) on Thursday, October 12 nabbed a fake Advocate of the High Court.

LSK helped in apprehending Brian Mwenda who has been falsely presenting himself as a lawyer. 

His arrest follows numerous complaints from members of the public about his fraudulent activities. 

Reports indicate that the fake lawyer had represented clients in 26 cases before High Court Judges and Court of Appeal Judges before he was found.

At the same time, reports indicate that he had won most of the cases he represented in court.

However, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) records indicate that Mwenda is not an advocate and has no license to practice law in Kenya.

He is currently being held at the RAT offices pending further investigations.

His arrest comes barely four months after the LSK nabbed four fake lawyers during a crackdown in Nairobi.

LSK President Eric Theuri noted on May 17, that the four were arrested in offices in Nairobi after the society initiated a crackdown to weed out quacks in the legal profession.

“We have partnered with police and the office of the DPP to ensure all fake lawyers are arrested and charged in court,” Theuri said.

He also advised Kenyans seeking services of lawyers to visit LSK website to ascertain whether the lawyer is a certified legal practitioner in the country.

He also warned law students against representing clients in courts, saying that they have to wait until their graduation and admission to the bar.
