Family patterns in this New generation have taken a wild turn compared to how it was back in the old days.

The rise of single parenting is spreading like wildfire each passing day forcing children to be raised in an incomplete family differently from our African traditional setup.

Surprisingly, this is seen as normal rather than odd because it’s literally happening everywhere with family dramas escalating in our neighborhoods and on social media.

The phrases “My baby mama” and “My baby Daddy” have replaced ‘Wife and Husband.’

In terms of comparisons, single parenting is higher in females compared to males because when it gets worse, women are the ones who get stuck.

Fatherlessness

The presence of a father in a child’s life is unquestionably a very important necessity that every child should not miss out on.

According to Steven Kendrick, an American Film producer the role of a father is to protect, teach, listen, provide, and be a friend to his children.

Media Personality Muchina Malomba shared in an interview hosted by Grace Kuria of TV47 that he did not know he struggled with abandonment issues until recently when he talked to his therapist.

“I don’t relate to any of that because I didn’t grow up with a father so I didn’t have a friend, a provider, or a protector.”

Even though Muchina has been raised to be a vibrant man of great character by his grandmother and mother he admitted that he can’t help but wonder if it would have been different if his father was present.

The case of Fatherlessness was further discussed in depth and explained in different dimensions.

The ‘deadbeat’ fathers -the physically present and emotionally absent or both physically and emotionally absent.

The second dimension is the absent fathers in death.

Fatherlessness causes abandonment issues on a child because they lack adequate parenting.

“One of the things that has caused fatherlessness is the aspect of not knowing how to be a father.” Dr. Julius Kimani said during the interview.

He added that for one to become a father he has to be intentional about it.

According to the European Journal of Social Sciences Studies, Parenting is more than just the title.

 It involves numerous activities performed by parents to influence the child’s outcomes in growth and development.
