Family seeks justice after kin abducted and killed in Machakos

A family in Mitaboni, Machakos County is seeking justice after their kin was allegedly abducted and killed by unknown people.

Jacob Muthama was abducted in the morning while on the way to his place of work in Vota, according to his wife, Mary Mutheu.

During the incident that occurred on October 16, 2024, Muthama was seriously injured by the abductors, leading to his death two weeks later. He later died on November 26.

His wife said that Muthama sustained serious injuries after he was abducted for 24 hours, as she urged police to investigate the matter and arrest culprits involved.

“We are appealing for help from the government and well wishers to support us in raising money to clear hospital and mortuary bills for my late husband. He has left two orphans, the youngest being 2 weeks old,” said Mutheu.

According to his brother Moses Maweu, the family spent over Ksh200,000 on medical bills before Muthama died. The family is now seeking help from the government and well wishers to help them pay debts incurred as a result of the hospital bills.

Maweu added that the family is also seeking help to enable them in the burial arrangements.

“We sold everything to pay the medical bill but the hospital has refused to release the body for burial until we clear the balance of Ksh1.4 million. We are appealing to the national government and the Machakos County hospital to help us in raising the needed money for us to continue with burial arrangements,” said Maweu.

Meanwhile, Machakos County woman representative Joyce Kamene Kisimbi urged the government to ensure security for the citizens at a time when cases of attacks and abductions have increased in the county.

She also called on the national government to speed up the implementation of an affordable healthcare program, Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), for the benefit of citizens from poor backgrounds.
