FBI confirms Donald Trump’s assassination attempt

The FBI has confirmed an assassination attempt against former US President Donald Trump after a shooting incident during his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to AlJazeera reports.

According to his campaign team, Trump was safely whisked off stage with minor injuries on his ear and cheek during the shooting incident on July 13, 2024.

Media reports indicate that the Secret Service officers killed the suspected attacker during the incident.

“The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the FBI said in a statement cited by the NBC and CBS.

One of Trump’s supporters was killed while two others were critically injured during the shooting incident.

The former US President said he shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear.

Meanwhile, the incident has been condemned by both Republicans and Democrats, with President Joe Biden saying there’s no place for such kind of violence in the US.

Former President Barack Obama, also condemned the incident and wished Trump a quick recovery.

“There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery,” Obama noted in a statement posted on X.

However, the FBI did not release any information about the motive of the attacker, although investigations are ongoing.
