The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) welcomed FBI Director Christopher Wray for a courtesy visit at Integrity Centre in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the long-standing partnership between the two agencies and explore new initiatives for effective law enforcement.
The delegation from the FBI, accompanied by the American Embassy in Nairobi, met with EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak to discuss various collaboration initiatives.
These included countering transnational corruption and economic crimes, as well as enhancing the support to EACC through training and the acquisition of modern investigative tools and equipment.
The meeting also focused on leveraging information exchange to support tracing and recovery of corruptly acquired assets stashed abroad.
FBI Director Wray expressed his commitment to strengthening the partnership and supporting EACC efforts to safeguard the rule of law and maintain public confidence in institutions.
“I had a productive meeting with EACC CEO Mbarak and his team at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission about their important work combating corruption and promoting accountability,” said FBI Director Wray.
“The FBI will continue to look for ways to strengthen our partnership and support EACC efforts to safeguard the rule of law and ensure public confidence in institutions,” he added.
EACC CEO Mbarak appreciated the technical support provided by the FBI, which has enhanced the Commission’s investigations. He emphasized that the meeting marked a major milestone in deepening the partnership and exploring areas of cooperation.
“Today marks a major milestone as we seek to deepen our partnership and explore areas of cooperation. With technical support from the FBI, the Commission will have a greater impact in investigating high impact cases and robustly pursue recovery of corruptly acquired assets and unexplained wealth,” said Mr. Mbarak.
