A likely rocket debris for more than three days now has caused panic in Mukuku village, in Mbooni East, Makueni County after the red-hot heavy metallic object came down glowing on Monday December 30, 2024 in the evening.
Villagers who sighted the object from space as it went down the rural village said they heard a loud noise from the skies before the object turned red-hot and took hours before hitting the ground.
“Personally I’m a worried person, when this happened my mother called and informed me about this incident, I had to come back from the market. Right now you can’t even spot any children around this place, even some women and men…they’re all scared,” said Musili Ngula who hails from the nearby village.
The debris is reported to have caused a huge bung, sending an entire village into panic and confusion.
Mbooni sub-county police commander Julius Rotich accompanied by Kenya Space Agency officials have since visited the scene as investigations began.
“We have accompanied a team of specialists from the Kenya Space Agency who will investigate and give us a report and therefore there’s no need to panic,” said Rotich.
Officials from KSA said the object that fell from the skies is a separation ring from a space exploration rocket and they’re carrying out more analysis to identify the owner.
This incident comes less than a year after another space exploration device went down in Masinga Constituency in Machakos County.
