Kenyan sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala has wrapped up his 2024 season on a high note, finishing as the second fastest man in the world.
The 28-year-old clocked a blistering season-best (SB) of 9.79 seconds in the 100 meters, cementing his place among the global elite of sprinters.
Omanyala’s remarkable time was recorded during the Diamond League meet in Brussels, where he showcased his incredible speed and agility, finishing just behind American sprinter Noah Lyles, the current world record holder.
The performance capped off a season of consistent excellence for Omanyala, who has steadily risen through the ranks to become a dominant force in international sprinting.
In an Instagram post, Omanyala expressed his satisfaction with his performance.
”What a season it’s been, happy to wrap it up here in Brussels!”
“Closing the season ranked the 2nd fastest man in the world with a time of 9.79”
“A testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience we put in day in and day out”
“There were highs, new records, and tough challenges, but every lesson made me stronger”
“I couldn’t have done it without my incredible team”
“my coach @speedstarskenya, my manager @ffa_sportsman, and my family @luv_di_lavi Thank you for always having my back!”
“To my sponsors, thank you for believing in my dreams”
“And to all the fans, your support pushes me forward every step of the way”
“Most importantly, I give glory to God”
“Who begun a great work in me, and I know He will see it to completion”
“Let’s keep chasing greatness!”
Omanyala’s rise to prominence has been swift, with the Kenyan sprinter consistently shaving off time from his personal best over the past few years.
His 9.79-second run now places him in a league of sprinters who have dipped below the 9.80 mark, a feat achieved by only a handful of athletes in history.
His performance boosts his standing and highlights Kenya’s growing presence in short-distance events, traditionally dominated by North American and Caribbean sprinters.
With his season now concluded, Omanyala is expected to rest and recuperate before gearing up for the 2025 World Championships, where he will be eyeing a podium finish.
As Omanyala’s sprinting career continues to ascend, the world will be watching to see how far this Kenyan speedster can go.
