FIFA awards Morocco hosting rights for next Five FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup tournaments

Morocco has been granted the hosting rights for the next five editions of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will now expand from 16 teams to 24 and will be held annually, starting from 2025.

This announcement was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino on October 22, 2024, during the 46th General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The first edition in Morocco will take place from October 17 to November 8, 2025. Morocco previously hosted the FIFA Club World Cup three times, in 2013, 2014, and 2022, and will now host the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup annually from 2025 to 2029.

“I thank Morocco for hosting the next five editions of this women’s competition,” Infantino stated, emphasizing Morocco’s pivotal role in advancing women’s football in Africa.

He noted that hosting such a prestigious tournament reflects Morocco’s commitment to the development of women’s sports and presents an opportunity to inspire young female athletes across the continent.

Infantino also highlighted the progress being made in youth football across Africa and stressed the importance of investing in young talent. “Creating opportunities to further develop the sport on the continent is essential for its growth,” he added.

In preparation for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup and other major tournaments, Morocco is undergoing extensive upgrades to its sporting infrastructure. This includes renovations of stadiums in cities such as Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, Rabat, Casablanca, and Tangier, as well as the construction of a new 115,000-seat stadium in Benslimane.

Morocco will also host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from July 5 to 26, 2025, followed by the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup from October 17 to November 8, 2025, and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Looking ahead, Morocco, alongside Spain and Portugal, will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, marking the second time an African nation will host the global football event, following South Africa in 2010.
