World football governing body FIFA has chosen Rabat, Morocco, as the location for its first-ever African headquarters, making Morocco the first African country to host a FIFA office.
The decision was formalized in a deal signed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
The new office in Rabat will focus on driving sustainable growth, developing talent, and expanding football’s reach across the African continent. This move positions Morocco as a strategic hub for football projects, streamlining operations and offering enhanced support to local federations.
Morocco’s Growing Role in Global Football
Prime Minister Akhannouch emphasized that the establishment of FIFA’s African office reflects the international sporting community’s trust in Morocco. The announcement follows a historic moment for the Kingdom, which was recently named a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
Akhannouch pledged the Moroccan government’s full support, promising to facilitate the establishment and operation of the office.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the agreement as a milestone for Morocco, Africa, and global football.
“This is a historic and exceptional day for FIFA, for Morocco, and for the whole of Africa,” Infantino stated.
He expressed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI, commending the King’s unwavering commitment to advancing football in Africa. Infantino also praised Morocco’s rapid football development and the collaborative efforts of the FRMF and the Moroccan government.
