Kenyan clubs received Ksh37,208,750 ($289,000) in transfer fees during the recently concluded 2024 summer transfer window from 20 outgoing transfers, according to a report published by FIFA.
Nineteen Kenyan players either moved from local clubs to international teams or switched clubs abroad, generating a total of Ksh37.2 million in transfer fees for their former teams. Notably, many of these players were free agents, making their moves under the Bosman rule. Stanley Wilson’s transfer commanded the highest fee, with Kariobangi Sharks earning Ksh25.7 million from his move to Sweden’s AIK.
The FIFA report highlights that all transfer data exclusively pertains to international transfers of professional football players within 11-a-side football.
Meanwhile, 20 players joined the Kenyan Premier League from abroad, but no transfer fees were recorded for these incoming moves, as all 20 players were free agents. This resulted in a 13% decrease from the transfer fees paid during the same period last year.
All references to transfer fees in the report include the total sum of all fixed amounts, conditional payments, and release (buyout) fees as declared in the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS). These fees are treated as upfront payments for calculation purposes, even if clubs agree to payments in installments.
The data provided by clubs and associations in the TMS include all references to transfer fees, encompassing fixed, conditional, and release payments as reported.
