FIFA lifts Sofapaka’s transfer ban after settling debts with former Burundian players

FIFA has officially lifted the transfer ban on Sofapaka FC following the club’s successful payments to their former Burundian players—David Nshimirimana, Fiston Razak, and Moussa Omar—over breach of contract issues.

This decision allows Sofapaka to register all their new signings ahead of this weekend’s match against FC Talanta.

Two weeks ago, Sofapaka CEO Ronald Okoth announced that the club was finalizing payments to resolve the ban. However, Sofapaka still faces a deadline at the end of the month to settle outstanding debts owed to former local players Paul Kiongera and Collins Wakhungu, or they risk losing their license.

Yesterday, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) released the confirmed transfer list, but Sofapaka’s “ins” column remained empty due to the ban. The club has since settled the payments owed to the trio, clearing the way for the registration of their new recruits.

Sofapaka confirmed the news in a club statement, announcing that they can now field their new signings in Saturday’s league match against FC Talanta.

“Our FIFA ban has finally been lifted. All the sleepless nights of administrative work, finding solutions, and countless emails have finally paid off. God will always be the greatest,” the statement read.

Two weeks ago, Sofapaka CEO Ronald Okoth had indicated that they were in the process of finalizing the payments to lift the ban.
