FIFA President lauds new FKF regime, promises support

In a significant move to promote Kenyan football, FIFA President Gianni Infantino met in Marrakech, Morocco, with Kenyan football legend McDonald Mariga and recently elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed.

The talks focused on enhancing infrastructure, governance, and the expansion of the sport, with a particular focus on women’s football.

Hussein Mohammed was congratulated on his election by FIFA President Infantino, who also promised him FIFA’s entire support.

He emphasized Mohammed’s enthusiasm for football and his background in administration as being essential to bringing about change.

“I congratulated President Mohammed on his recent election and assured him of mine and FIFA’s support as he takes on this new challenge of building Kenyan football,” said Infantino on his Instagram.

Kenyan football icon McDonald Mariga, who joined the discussions, expressed his excitement about the transformative journey ahead.

“I’m proud to join FKF President Hussein Mohammed in Marrakech for this important meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. We discussed governance, infrastructure, and growing Kenyan football, including women’s football. I’m excited to be part of this journey to transform the sport,” said Mariga.

The meeting also highlighted Kenya’s ambitious plans, including the construction of a new technical centre in Machakos. This facility will provide much-needed resources to nurture talent and boost player development.

Additionally, FKF’s strong participation in FIFA’s programmes, particularly in women’s football, reflects a clear commitment to growing the game at all levels.

“Kenya is a football-loving country, and the desire to progress is clear. With the right leadership and structures in place, the future looks bright,” added Infantino.

The collaboration marks a new chapter for Kenyan football, with a focus on creating sustainable systems that will elevate the sport locally and internationally.
