FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup: Kenya eagerly awaits group stage draw

Kenya eagerly anticipates discovering their opponents in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, with the draw scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2024, in the host nation, the Dominican Republic.

Kenya achieved a significant milestone by securing their maiden appearance on the global stage, following impressive aggregate victories of 3-0 over Ethiopia and 5-0 over Burundi.

Participating nations

Kenya joins an esteemed group for the eighth edition of the U-17 Women’s World Cup making up the trio representing Africa alongside Nigeria, and Zambia.

Notably, former champions Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Japan, and Spain will also participate in this year’s tournament. Other contenders include hosts Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, England, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, and the USA.

Tournament format

The 16 participating teams will be divided into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals. This stage will be followed by the semi-finals, a match for third place, and the final.

Draw

Kenya has been placed in Pot 4 for the upcoming U17 Women’s World Cup draw on Saturday.

  • Pot 1: Dominican Republic (hosts), Spain, Japan, Korea DPR
  • Pot 2: Brazil, USA, Mexico, New Zealand
  • Pot 3: Nigeria, Colombia, England, Zambia
  • Pot 4: Kenya, Korea Republic, Poland, Ecuador

Tournament Dates

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024 will be held in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3.

As Kenya prepares for the draw, the Junior Starlets will be determined to make their mark in their maiden appearance at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

Kenya will seek not only to make an appearance, but to challenge and compete against any opponents they face.

This would also provide a global platform for the team to showcase their talent.
