Several families were left homeless during a fire outbreak on Saturday March 1, 2025 at night in Tassia Estate in Embakasi East, Nairobi.
The incident was confirmed by Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino in a video he shared on his social media accounts.
”Pray for us as fire is currently razing down houses at Tassia, Embakasi East. Property worth millions was destroyed, and children, men, and women were left homeless, and forced to spend the night in the cold. What a sad night in Embakasi East,” Babu Owino stated.
According to the police, property worth millions of shillings were destroyed during the fire tragedy, near Tassia SDA church, forcing affected families to spend the night in the cold.
Six people were seriously injured and were rescued by emergency response teams from the Red Cross, Nairobi county government and police.
Videos and images shared on social media showed emergency vehicles wading through the estate roads to respond to the situation as curious onlookers recorded the incident from their balconies.
The injured were rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi for treatment.
However, firefighters from the County Government of Nairobi, Kenya Red Cross and area residents managed to contain the fire, before it could spread to other neighbouring estates.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but police have launched investigations into the incident.
