Fireworks set fire on Nairobi’s Old Mutual tower during New Year celebrations

The famous Old mutual tower building situated in Nairobi’s Upper hill area caught fire during the new year celebrations on Sunday night after a fire works mishap.

The incident came hours after the government through the Ministry of mining called on Kenyans to get permits for fire works display and take cautions while operating the mini-explosives.

Old Mutual Tower which is an icon building in Kenya’s capital was among the buildings selected for a fireworks showcase to usher in the year 2024 however according to a video posted on social media big black smoke could be seen coming from the rooftop of the building a moments later a fire broke out.

Old Mutual on the other hand assured the public that no one was hurt and the fire was put out in time.

The State Department of Mining, had earlier noted that those intending to display fireworks should acquire permits.

Further, the Ministry directed that their officers should be notified and be present during any New Year Fireworks celebrations.
Failure to comply with the regulations, according to the Mining Ministry, attracts either a fine or jail term in line with the court of law.
