First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto has mourned the two individuals who have lost their lives following a head-on collision between a fuel tanker and a Mombasa-bound bus in the Mundika area of Busia County.
In the One pm incident, five others were injured badly and are currently receiving treatment at the Busia Referral Hospital
The bus, owned by Tahmeed Company, was transporting passengers from Busia to Mombasa when it collided head-on with the petrol trailer travelling in the opposite direction.
In her message, the First Lady sent her heartfelt sympathies to the affected.
According to the police report The accident occurred at around 1320hrs at Mundika next to St. Jude primary school area along BUSIA- KISUMU road.
It happened that the unknown driver (who has been burnt beyond recognition)was driving a motor vehicle KBK 983T/ZD 4189 make actros fuel tanker from Kisumu heading towards Busia general direction and on reaching the location of he failed to keep to his proper lane to the right hitting an oncoming motor vehicle registration number KCV 296R Make scania bus c/o Tahmeed company limited driven by an unknown driver carrying unknown passengers from Busia heading towards Kisumu direction.
As a result, both vehicles caught fire and unknown passengers burnt beyond recognition others resqued and rushed to Busia County Referral Hospital and surrounding hospitals. Meanwhile, Busia Senator Okiya Omutatah took to X (formerly X) to sympathize with the bereaved families and wish a quick recovery to those injured.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends. My thoughts are now with the victims & their families.” Stated the Senator.
Red Cross Kenya deployed its officers, including the Busia County Fire Brigade and Red Cross Action team, to the scene to help salvage the situation.
The Incident comes a month after more than ten people died and several others were injured in a gas explosion in Nairobi’s Embakasi area.
A few minutes to midnight, multiple explosions followed by a huge fire that sent smoke in the sky sent Embakasi residents into panic.
