Security agencies in Homa Bay are investigating the tragic drowning of a fisherman at Angalo Beach in Homa Bay Town.
The victim, identified as John Okombo, 43, drowned on Saturday February 22, 2025 in the morning while fishing with his brother.
According to reports, Okombo lost balance and fell into the water, possibly due to an underlying medical condition. Fellow fishermen launched a search operation, eventually recovering his body later in the day.
Arujo Location Chief Bob Lango expressed concern over the lack of safety measures, stating that Okombo’s life could have been saved if he had been wearing a life jacket.
In response, local fishermen urged the Homa Bay County government to assist them in acquiring life jackets to prevent similar tragedies.
Authorities continued to investigate the incident as the community mourns the loss of one of their own.
