Five dead, 19 injured in an accident on Gilgil-Naivasha Road

Five people, including two children, died in an accident on the Gilgil-Naivasha Road on Thursday, June 27.

The accident that occurred at around 7:30 pm at the Kigio area involved three matatus (belonging to Narok Line Services, Mau Narok Sacco, and Ennus Matatu Sacco).

Police say that one of the vehicles was towing another from Naivasha towards Gilgil when the accident occurred.

The driver of one of the matatus attempted to overtake a fleet of vehicles but failed to return to his lane in time, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The matatu then rolled several times, resulting in the deaths of two men, a woman, a boy, and a girl.

Nineteen (19) other individuals were injured in the accident and are currently receiving treatment at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital mortuary for further processing.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident to determine the exact cause and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
