Five police officers arraigned at Milimani Court in connection with the escape of Kware killings prime suspect, 12 Eritreans from custody at Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi.
Five police officers have been arraigned at Milimani Court in connection with the escape of 13 remandees from custody at the Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi.
They are; Ronald Babo, Evans Kipkirui, Mollent Achieng, Zachary Nyabuto and Gerald Mutuku.
The officers are persons of interest in the case that involves the disappearance of 12 Eritrean nationals and Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the murder of several people whose bodies were recovered in Kware, Embakasi South, Nairobi.
The five officers, Gigiri Sub-County Commander, and Officer Commanding Station were on Tuesday, August 20 interdicted from the National Police Service by acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, even as investigations continue.
Masengeli, who was flanked by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin and Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat in a press conference, described the Tuesday morning incident as an “inside job”.
The nation woke up to shocking news that Jumaisi, who police say had confessed to killing at least six women, before dumping their mutilated bodies at Kware dumpsite, was among those who had escaped from Gigiri Police Station.
A report — filed at the station by police officers Evans Kirui and Gerald Mutuku who were manning the cells — says the incident occurred at around 3 am.
Kirui and Mutuku say that they were making their routine visit to the cells to serve breakfast to the suspects when they realised that they were nowhere to be seen.
They discovered that the 13 suspects had escaped by cutting the wire mesh at the basking bay.
