A court in Nakuru has granted police 21 more days to hold five suspects linked to the murder of Molo activist, Richard Otieno.
Police requested 30 days to complete investigations, including awaiting DNA results and analyzing phone data.
Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion approved the 21-day extension and raised concerns about the suspects’ safety, suggesting they could be moved if necessary.
The case has sparked protests, with many locals demanding answers.
The suspects include Gerald Mavado and John Ndegwa, on probation for assaulting Otieno in November 2023, and bodaboda riders Clinton Simantu and Peter Mwaniki, who are believed to have transported the perpetrators.
Richard Otieno, also known as ‘Molo President,’ was killed on January 18, 2025, near Elburgon police station.
His death led to protests, with locals taking his body to the police station.
An autopsy revealed slash wounds likely caused by a machete or axe, leading to a fractured skull and excessive bleeding.
Otieno was an outspoken political activist in Molo as he strongly advocated for leaders to be accountable for their promises.
