FKF Chairmen demand AFC Leopards and Murang’a Seal officials cease league interference

A coalition of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch chairmen is calling for AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda and Murang’a Seal counterpart Robert Macharia to stop interfering in the management of regional leagues.

Representing the Nairobi and Central regions as National Executive Committee (NEC) members, respectively, Shikanda and Macharia are accused of overstepping their mandates.

Allegations of unconstitutional actions

According to the FKF chairmen’s caucus, Shikanda and Macharia have sidelined their respective branches in the running of regional and Division 2 leagues.

These actions reportedly contravene the FKF constitution and NEC resolutions from June 2021. The chairmen allege that the two NEC members have prevented branches from forming standing committees and have excluded them as signatories on bank accounts.

Furthermore, the establishment of a secretariat and appointment committee by Shikanda and Macharia is seen as direct involvement in the leagues’ day-to-day operations.

The caucus, comprised of 24 FKF chairmen, voiced their concerns in a report following a meeting in Nakuru.

They emphasized that these actions contradict the FKF constitution and NEC resolutions, potentially jeopardizing the integrity of the leagues.

Risk of league nullification

The FKF chairmen expressed fears that the alleged interference could lead to a situation similar to the caretaker committee era, where leagues were nullified, resulting in significant losses for teams.

They cited Murangá Seal, Fortune Sacco, and APS Bomet as examples of teams that suffered during that period and cautioned against a repeat scenario.

The chairmen emphasized the need to protect the numerous teams in Nairobi and the Central region from such risks.

Demands and ultimatum

The FKF chairmen are demanding that Shikanda and Macharia disband what they deem “illegal committees,” focus on their oversight roles, and immediately cease interfering in the daily operations of the regional and Division 2 leagues.

A seven-day ultimatum has been issued, after which the chairmen threaten to push for their dismissal at the upcoming FKF Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for May 31.

The chairmen’s caucus seeks to ensure compliance with FKF regulations and prevent potential disruptions to the regional leagues.
