The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has strongly condemned the assault on Daily Nation photojournalist Chris Omollo, which occurred during the FKF Premier League match between Gor Mahia and Mara Sugar at Dandora Stadium, Nairobi, on April 27, 2025.
In a statement released on April 29, FKF expressed deep regret over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of journalists and fans at football matches across the country1.
The federation described the violence directed at Omollo-and any aggression toward journalists or fans-as unacceptable and without place in Kenyan football.
FKF emphasized that the safety of media and fans is a top priority and essential for a secure football environment.
In response, FKF announced that it is collaborating with the National Police Service, the involved football clubs, and Dandora Stadium management to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the assault and ensure accountability.
The federation also revealed plans to review and enhance security protocols for journalists and spectators at Dandora Stadium and other venues nationwide.
FKF further stated its dedication to working with the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) and other stakeholders to implement robust measures that prioritize journalist safety and uphold press freedom. The federation welcomed open dialogue to ensure the effectiveness of these measures.
FKF concluded its statement by wishing Omollo a full and speedy recovery and reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the matter with the urgency and seriousness it demands.
