The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has launched a Jersey Design Competition for 2025, inviting Kenyan designers aged 18 to 35 to submit original jersey concepts. The initiative aims to create a new national team kit that reflects cultural and national significance.
According to FKF, the base colors of the designs must align with the national flag black, white, red, and green to maintain a recognizable identity. The competition runs from April 1 to April 15, 2025, and participants are required to submit only one entry, which must be original and not previously published or submitted elsewhere.
An independent committee will select the top three designs. The winner will receive KES 150,000, while the second and third-placed entrants will be awarded KES 100,000 and KES 50,000, respectively.
However, winning entrants must transfer full copyright and intellectual property rights of their designs to FKF, with no future claim to royalties or revenue from merchandise sales. Those whose entries are not selected will retain rights to their work.
The competition has several restrictions: entries must not contain offensive or discriminatory elements, promote brands or products, or feature copyrighted material without permission.
While the initiative may encourage fresh creativity, some designers may find the intellectual property clause a drawback, as FKF retains full rights over the selected designs without further compensation. Nonetheless, the competition presents an opportunity for emerging designers to gain national recognition
