FKF seeks DCI’s help in match-fixing probe against Patrick Matasi

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to assist in the investigation of goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over allegations of match-fixing. This follows his provisional suspension from all football-related activities on March 27, 2025.

According to a letter addressed to the DCI, FKF stated that Matasi was seen in a viral video allegedly planning and conspiring to fix a match unlawfully for financial gain.

The federation noted that match manipulation is a serious offense that goes against both FKF’s Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016) and Kenya’s Penal Code (Section 313) on false pretenses.

Additionally, the FKF highlighted that such actions amount to corruption and economic crimes under Section 47A of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act. The federation emphasized its commitment to eliminating match-fixing and has called for legislative amendments to criminalize the vice.

“The Federation is currently undertaking its internal investigations but requests your good office to assist in probing the said individual,” read the letter signed by FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege. The federation hopes that the investigation will uncover other possible accomplices involved in the alleged match-fixing scheme.

Matasi, a former Harambee Stars goalkeeper, has yet to respond to the allegations. His suspension means he will not participate in any FKF-sanctioned football activities until investigations are concluded.

FKF has reaffirmed its stance against match-fixing, promising strict action against those involved to protect the integrity of Kenyan football.
