A tragic incident unfolded along Ngong Road on Thursday March 13, 2025 near the Greenhouse area after a man was fatally struck by a speeding government vehicle reportedly attached to President William Ruto’s motorcade.
Witnesses at the scene say the man, described as an elderly white man, was attempting to cross the road when the high-speed escort vehicle failed to stop, hitting him on the spot.
Eyewitness accounts paint a distressing picture of the aftermath. “The vehicle was moving at an incredible speed, and it didn’t even slow down after hitting him,” said one bystander. “People rushed to help, but it was too late.” The victim’s lifeless body lay on the road, covered in a Maasai leso, as an enraged crowd gathered around, demanding answers.
The accident quickly sparked public outrage, with residents expressing frustration over the reckless driving of official convoys, which have long been criticized for endangering ordinary road users.
Videos circulating online show a tense situation at the scene, with bystanders visibly shaken and angered by the hit-and-run nature of the incident.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service has released a statement, explaining that Police launched investigations into the incident.
“Following a road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road involving a government vehicle, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national, the National Police Service (NPS) is now handling the matter, and investigations have commenced.
“We encourage anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to report to the nearest police station,” read part of the police report.
Meanwhile, President Ruto continued his official engagements in Kibra as part of his fourth-day tour of Nairobi.
This incident reignites concerns over road safety, particularly regarding government convoys that frequently flout traffic laws.
