Form 2 girl drops out of Lugulu High School after death of her Canadian sponsor

Shelby Chebet, is a 15-year-old form two student at Lugulu Girls High School in Bungoma County.

She is the first born daughter in a family of three, raised by a single mother.

Shelby’s mother was raised at Litein Children’s Home and she did not get further assistance to continue with her studies  after her KCPE examination in 2006. She later secured a job at the tea estate as a casual worker.

Shelby was born in 2008 and four years later got enrolled at Chemitan Academy Litein, fully sponsored by Canadian Evangelist Brenda Zugman.

She sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2022 and scored 399 marks before she was admitted to a national school, Lugulu Girls with the support of Brenda Zugman.

However, Shelby’s family was hit by misfortune in May 2023 when Brenda Zugman was involved in an accident in Canada and sadly passed on.

Her family never knew about the tragic incident till December 2023. Shelby’s fee was only paid for the first term and the arrears have accumulated to Ksh68000.

She was sent home  for fees in February 2024 and has been home ever since.

The family currently lives in one roomed rental house in Kericho, Duka Moja. The mother still does casual jobs and was recently hospitalized after she was diagnosed with depression.

This is a fateful story of a young girl determined to design a glorious destiny amidst a series of pain, misfortune and tribulations.
