Police in Migori County are investigating an incident that saw a form three student die by suicide on Sunday, September 24.
The student – from Bande Girls Secondary School was found dead inside a classroom under unclear circumstances.
Confirming the incident, area chief Winnie Malemba says that the 15-year-old – in the company of her colleagues – went for a church service within the school compound.
However, she snuck out of the service while it was still ongoing, and was later found dead.
Constant harassments
A police report has since revealed that the deceased left behind a note, indicating that she killed herself because of constant harassment from one of the school prefects.
The body of the student has been removed to Migori Level IV Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
