Form 4 student arrested for allegedly dumping newborn in a pit latrine

Police in Kwale County have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly dumping her infant in a pit latrine.

The suspect, a Form 4 student from Mudzi Mure Village in Matuga, is said to have given birth on Wednesday night before dumping the newborn in a 10-foot pit latrine.

Locals visited the scene on Thursday at around 11am after hearing cries from the baby.

They probed the student on whereabouts of her newborn where they concluded she was the one who dumped the child.

Police officers were called to the scene to help in the rescue mission and arrest of the young mother.

The baby is currently being monitored at Kwale sub-County Hospital while the student is being held pending arraignment.
