Former Assistant Minister and MP Simon Ogari is dead

Former assistant Transport Minister and ex Bomachoge member of Parliament Simon Ogari is dead.

Ogari has passed away on September 10, 2024 at the age of 68 years.

According to his family, Ogari succumbed to a long illness while at his Karen home in Nairobi.

Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka has mourned the former MP, hailing him as a selfless man who was simple.

“It is with great sorrow that I learn of the passing of Hon. Simon Ogari, Former MP for Bomachoge. He was a polite, kind and selfless man who was simple to a fault,” he said.

“Besides being a good leader and colleague, he was my personal friend for many years. He was a good man whom I will personally miss in his death,” he added.

The politician served as Transport assistant minister in the Grand Coalition government.

He was elected as Bomachoge MP in a by-election in 2009 on the ODM ticket after beating the late Joel Onyancha in the hotly contested poll.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga picked Ogari as an assistant minister for Trade in 2010 and later served as assistant minister of Information and Communications between 2012 and 2013.

In the 2013 general election, Ogari was reelected as the first MP for the newly created Bomachoge Chache under the 2010 Constitution.

He was a member of the ODM party.

Ogari lost his seat to Alpha Miruka during the 2017 general election.

Ogari graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying.
