Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri quits UDA, “I will never wear yellow”

Bahati former Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has declared his departure from the United Democratic Party (UDA) over allocation of positions in the party.

Speaking during an interview with Spice FM on April 3, 2024, the President’s well known ally said that he will still support President Ruto but will not work for UDA.

“I want to say to the media and everybody in Kenya to hear me, I am not in UDA. I will never wear yellow anymore,” he said.

The ex-legislator also noted that he would either go for another party or be independent.

However, he accused the Kenya Kwanza Alliance of abandoning their loyalists who supported its growth but selected people who did not support the party.

“Someone like me, they were offering positions to others, where was my recognition? I was almost sacrificing everything in the fight for UDA,” Ngunjiri claimed.

“Before we remove ourselves, we are already removed,” he continued.

Ngunjiri noted that he would no longer vie on the party’s ticket, due to lack of appreciation and recognition within its ranks.

“I will not talk about UDA. I am not part and parcel for UDA,” he added.

He shared an example of Nakuru County where 7 family members were given nominations yet his people got nothing.

“I have been with Moi and Kibaki, I know the structure of elections and how leaders should put people together.”

Kimani Ngunjiri lost MP seat in 2022 elections

Bahati UDA Parliamentary candidate Kimani Ngunjiri lost his seat to Jubilee counterpart Irene Njoki in the 2022 general elections.

Nevertheless, Ngunjiri was among the 50 nominated Chief Administrative Secretaries nominated by President William Ruto but the Court barred the nominees from assuming office.
