Former CS Nakhumicha makes a comeback as President Ruto reshuffles Gov’t

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has made a comeback after she was removed from Cabinet on July 11, 2024.

Nakhumicha was on Thursday, March 20 nominated as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the UN-Habitat, headquartered in Nairobi.

She was removed in her previous position after President William Ruto dismissed all his Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General, at the height of anti-government protests in the country.

In the latest government reshuffle occasioned by President Ruto’s cooperation deal with Raila Odinga, several Principal Secretaries (PSs) have lost their influential positions and re-assigned to ambassadorial roles.

President Ruto has nominates James Buyekane Muhati — who was the PS for the State Department for Economic Planning in the National Treasury — as Kenya’s Consul-General in Guangzhou, China.

Abdi Dubat Fidhow, who was the PS for EAC Affairs, has now been nominated as Kenya’s Consul-General in Arusha, Tanzania. Eng. Peter Tum, who was the Sports PS, has been nominated as Kenya’s Ambassador in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

President Ruto has also nominated Alfred Ombundo K’Ombundo, who was the PS for Trade, as Kenya’s Deputy Head of Mission in Brussels, Belgium. Geoffrey Eyanae Kaituko, who was the PS for the State Department of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, has been nominated as Kenya’s Deputy Head of Mission in Rome, Italy.
