Former First Lady H.E. Margaret Kenyatta inaugurated the 55th Annual Round Square International Conference (RSIC) at the Bomas of Kenya.
The RSIC is an annual event organized by and for students aged 16-18, and it travels to different countries.
The students get to interact with students from various schools hosting the event each year.
The RSIC2023 is being hosted by Brookhouse Schools and has attracted 1,200 student delegates and their teachers from 50 countries.

Margaret’s Hospitality
The theme for the 55th Round Square International Conference is “The New Africa,”
The theme aims to offer participants an opportunity to explore the continent’s evolution and its role in the 21st century.
During the opening ceremony, H.E. Margaret Kenyatta warmly welcomed the international delegates to the event.
In addition, she expressed hope that they would feel at home in Kenya in the course of the event.
She looked forward to hearing their unique perspectives during this important dialogue as well as engaging with them.
H.E. Margaret Kenyatta emphasized the significance of learning through community service, exchange programs, and scheduled projects.
She highlighted the generation’s readiness to take risks, question norms, experiment with new ideas, innovate, and work toward building a better world.

The events program
The audience was treated to a diverse range of entertainment during the ceremony.
Brookhouse School students presented an electrifying performance of the story of the Hummingbird.
The Hummingbird tale is a tale associated with celebrated Kenyan environmental activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai.
Moreover, Brookhouse alumni Nikita Kering and Richard Turere also showcased their musical and innovation talents, respectively.
Other notable figures present at the students’ event opening ceremony included Round Square Chairman and CEO Kurt Hahn.
Additionally, World Marathon Champion United Nations Peace Ambassador Tegla Loroupe, and long-distance runner Henry Wanyoike also graced the event.
