Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested the wife of former Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria and her brother in the Ksh 140 million corruption case.
The wife of former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, Jane Waigwe Kimani and her brother Solomon Mutura Kimani, both suspects in the Ksh 140 million Murang’a County graft case, were arrested on Wednesday April 17, 2024.
Confirming the arrest, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said that the two suspects were escorted to Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for arraignment.
The two are Directors of Value View Ltd, one of the companies used as a conduit for the fraudulent scheme.
EACC is pursuing the other 6 suspects, including the former Governor, who failed to honour summons to appear before the EACC on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 8am.
Their arrest came after the commission ordered former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, his wife Jane Waigwe Kimani and six other persons to represent themselves to EACC offices by Tuesday, April 16.
Other suspects in the Ksh140 million case Patrick Kagumu Mukuria (former county secretary), Jane Wanjiru Mbuthia (Director, M/S Top Image Media Consultancy Ltd), David Maina Kiama (Director, M/S Top Image Media Consultancy Ltd), David Maina Njeri (Director, M/S Top Image Media Consultancy Ltd), Solomon Mutura Kimani (Director, M/S Value View Ltd), and Peter Muturi Karanja (Personal Assistant to Wa Iria).
This comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga approved that they be charged in court for engaging in procurement irregularities involving Ksh140 million.
